Abstract: The effort to get highest gas exit temperatures in connexion with lowest fuel element temperatures in a high temperature gas-cooledreactor with prismatic fuel elements (HTGR) asks for a special refueling scheme. The "Axial Pushthrough" is such a refueling scheme. In this report the neutronphysical and thermodynamic properties of a HTGR-core with Pushthrough-fuel-management will be investigated.It can be shown that a core with a high heavy metal content and pressed fuel elements (Monolith) with the geometry of the Fort St.Vrain fuel elements has the most favourable properties. The final very detailed core lay-out, where burnable poison and control rodmovements were treated especially, shows, that the Pushthrough-refueling makes it possible to reach highest gas exit temperaturesin connexion with lowest fuel element temperatures in a HTGR with prismatic fuel elements.
